In Love at Last

Silas and I both served our missions in Long Beach, California. However, we never served in the same area at the same time. We didn't really even have many conversations. Sometimes he would ask me for mints and one time I asked him about his family, but that was pretty much the extent of our interactions as missionaries. We never really even had the intention of being friends after the mission.

Silas got home from his mission at the end of July, and I got home in the middle of October. One weekend after I had recently gotten home, I decided to visit Utah. Madison (my sister) and I made our way to Provo with the intention of visiting one of my companions from my mission, Sister (Delci) Brown. It also turned out that Elder (Jon) Dixon, another elder from our mission, was having a movie get-together the Saturday night we would be in Provo. He was inviting several missionaries from the mission, so we decided to go. Silas had hung out with Delci a lot since they had both been in Provo and was also at the movie get-together. Silas and I ended up sitting next to each other and talking. We realized that we had much more in common then we knew and he stayed next to me during the movie. After the movie was over, I mentioned that the next time I was in town we should hang out. He agreed, and I mentioned that I didn't have his number. He gave to me with no reservations. :) The next day, Madison, Delci and I decided to visit temple square before we made the trip home. We invited Silas to come too. He was happy to join us. This was the beginning of what became a beautiful love story!

While I was texting Silas to invite him to come with us to Temple square, he mentioned that I should move to Utah. I responded very emphatically, "Ughh!! I waaaaaaaant to!" Or at least that's what I thought. I got a reply back a few minutes later that said, "Still figuring out technology eh?". Confused, I looked at the text I had just sent. Horrified, I realized I had said instead, "Ughh!! I waaaaaaaant you!" I was mortified. I guess my phone knew something that I didn't! :)

Silas came with us to Temple Square before we left Utah.

After many texts, snapchats, phone calls, and Skype calls, we decided to officially start dating on January 19, 2015. I was attending BYU-Idaho at the time, and Silas was attending UVU. Road trips and weekend stays became the norm for us.  We began to see each other just about every other weekend. Consecutive weekends were a treat! Sometimes I would go to Utah, once we met in Logan, but mostly my sweet Silas would come to me in Idaho. In April 2015, we both transferred to BYU, I moved to Provo, and we said goodbye to Long Distance relationships for good! Being close to one another was the best!

On May 27, 2015 Silas asked me to marry him! It was a Wednesday. He wrote me little notes with different memories on them and had his sisters deliver them to me throughout the night. We had been with his family already because it was his Grammy's birthday. Then, he came in with a bouquet of roses and asked me to take a walk with him. When we went outside, there was a pile of rose petals surrounded by candles. He knelt down and asked me to marry him and I said yes!

We were married on July 25, 2015 in the Salt Lake City Temple. We were sealed at 3:30 P.M. We were supposed to be sealed at 3:00, but the temple was running behind. We were sealed by T. Steve Fotheringham in sealing room 13. Both of our dads were witnesses and many of our family was there at the sealing. I can recall the way that I felt as I prepared to be sealed to Silas. It was as if nothing else in the world mattered. I was completely content and undeniably on cloud nine. Silas could have been the only person in the room. My eyes were full of tears for the whole sealing, and I just thought about how lucky I felt to be marrying this wonderful man. The sealer talked about a handful of things, I don't remember a lot of what he said. I do however, remember him talking about kneeling in prayer every morning and night and holding hands while praying because it's hard to be mad at someone when you hold their hand and pray with them. He told Silas to say prayer on odd days and me to say prayer on even days. He also talked about tithing and to make it a priority. Being sealed to my best friend was the best moment of my life so far.

Our Wedding Video

Our reception was in Steph Hess's (my mom's best friend growing up) dad's backyard. It was perfect! It was decorated beautifully and everything went off without a hitch. We didn't have a reception line, instead we just walked around and talked to whoever wanted to talk to us. We served pasta and salad for our guests. Our first dance song was "Kingdom Come" by Coldplay. My father/daughter dance song was "Landslide" by Fleetwood Mac. We cut the cake, threw the bouquet, and were sent off with rose petals and bubbles.

I'm so lucky to have  such an amazing man in my life. Here's to many more adventures that are full of love and laughter!
